I've been wondering this for a while, but I'm only now getting around to asking, especially in light of this image and the one before: your work in these posts sometimes seems to make use of your book's gutter as a compositional element to enhance the illusion of a 3-dimensional space. Is that just me looking too closely, or is that in fact an intention of yours?
Great, great. Just what i like when we talk about sketchbooks. Can i put you in mine links list?
i really like the petals without outlines and the extra bit of red paint on the lower ones. it makes me indescribably optimistic. :)
Great question, John. I do think about the line of the gutter as an element in the composition, but the 3-D effect is less planned and more a variable effect of the home-sewn binding. (Whether the book will lie flat when I take my picture is not predictable.)
Thanks José Louro, I'd be honored to be among your links.
And Jenny, I'm so glad you felt the optimism!
