I never realized how many colors you could see in half a walnut - I was trying to limit my palette here, and kept needing other shades.

wow - this literally leaps off the page, 3D like (I'll admit, I didn't know it was a walnut, but the picture itself comes right out of the screen, practically). Isn't it amazing what you see when you really look?

Liz, the colors do speak loudly. How long do you look at your walnuts before you begin revealing them?

I must tell you that you've really inspired me. I want to try to do something creative every day and so I followed your lead and bought a pad and some Crayon d'Arch pencils... how neat.

I can't draw worth beans. No really. I'm not being modest here. If what I draw even resembles the thing I'm drawing then I feel happy. So I've done two drawings with a little commentary and I want to try and keep it up just for the heck of it. It's a great way to document life.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi there! Happy new year!
Love this walnut--and I love how the edges are defined by where the paper shows up and the color ends--it's one of those ones that I am ooohing at as I sit in front of the computer!

I love your ink line drawings -- they are spectacular, but this is just more walnuty than anything I could imagine. I love seeing the magic that is revealed when you proceed without the pen!

And congrats on two years of drawing every day. WOW! You are an inspiration to so many, keep on keepin' on!

I love your sketches and really enjoy dropping in on your blog every few days. And congratulations on your daily drawing acheivements - it's very inspiring!

Oh my ... the walnut! Wonderful combination of colors and hard vs soft edges. Great piece! (And I love the boots painting, too :-)

Thank you all.

Robyn, the walnuts came already-revealed from the supermarket this year.

Kim, how exciting that you are drawing! Have fun looking at things.

And Maria, for you, I will put away the pen for a few more days...
