November 2013 Archives

day3266.jpg

Color from the garden.
day3265.jpg

Wall detail at the Cross Bath spa, where we took the waters. Amazingly enough, we had the place to ourselves as we soaked and talked and enjoyed the atmosphere.

day3264.jpg

Walked along Regent's Canal after our Thanksgiving dinner. Saw a cat on a canal boat.
day3263.jpg

One remaining on the tree in the garden.
day3262.jpg

Running along the edge of the window wall in our living room.

day3261.jpg

The coziest.
day3260.jpg

Chimneys and antennas, seen while walking home from the Kilburn High Road.
day3259.jpg

Warm, and does not bang. (English radiators are thinner and quieter than the American ones I grew up with.)
day3258.jpg

Houseplant.
day3257.jpg

Tiny finishing nail. An extra from some Ikea furniture back, saved for hanging pictures.
day3256.jpg

Smooth stone from the beach. As soothing to paint as it is to hold.
day3255.jpg

Extra-engineered twist tie, also known as a gear tie. My favorite way to manage cables and cords.
day3254.jpg

I could just see the tops of people's heads from where I was sitting, near my gate. Headed back to London after a wonderful California interlude.
day3253.jpg

Another late-night landscape.

day3252.jpg

After a (glorious) 15-hour day of project work, with 8-hour jet lag still going strong, this is the most beautiful landscape I can imagine...
day3251.jpg

View from Caltrain window, headed from San Francisco to Mountain View for some meetings.
day3250.jpg

View from the airplane window...
day3249.jpg

Recharging various devices before a day of travel. I'll be in California tomorrow afternoon for a few days, and back in London again by Tuesday morning. Long flights, but a fantastic work opportunity and a chance to see family.
day3248.jpg

From the beach in Wales. With the stripes and rings on this one, it almost seemed plaid.
day3247.jpg

Black tissue paper from a shopping bag... made me think about ocean waves and rocks.
day3246.jpg

View from the train window - day trip to Birmingham, to see the new library there.

box

day3245.jpg

Containing chocolates. But not for very long...
day3244.jpg

With an end that made me think of an echidna, somehow.
day3243.jpg

The edge of a flyer. One of those things we pick up and (perhaps) reread before recycling at home.
day3242.jpg

Four apples. Not perfect for eating raw, but excellent in apple crisp.

pen

day3241.jpg

As promised, drawn in pencil. (Water-soluble graphite, so I still got to play with brush and water.)
day3240.jpg

I haven't seen as much autumn color here in England as I remember from western Pennsylvania - the changes seem more subtle.
day3239.jpg

Drawn in pen. Maybe I should try drawing a pen with pencil as well...
day3238.jpg

Ruby grapefruit, though the outside is more of a pinkish orange. It makes me think of winter, and getting boxes of fruit shipped from Florida.
day3237.jpg

Something like an infinity symbol with an extra twist. Perhaps the twist represents the way there are a nearly infinite number of rubber bands in the world, but only in the places where you don't need them at the moment.
As some of you may know, I was asked to deliver a TEDx talk at the American School in London in mid-October. My talk was entitled, "Do something badly," and a lot of it was about the experience of daily drawing and keeping this blog. The video of that talk is now live on a TEDx channel, so even if you weren't in London that day, you can see it.
