August 2013 Archives

day3174.jpg

Yesterday's sketch, on top of some others from August. After a month, I am enjoying drawing on the flat pieces of paper, instead of in a book. I'm less pleased by our continued challenges with getting on line and staying on line.

Still assembling the last of the furniture from Ikea.

Sliced.

Got to the grocery store today - a lemon for cooking and drinks.
day3154.jpg

Delivery of furniture from Ikea. Many brown flat-pack boxes. We got the sofa bed put together, two armchairs, and a little dining room table and chairs. Began work on our beds, but discovered that we really needed a decent screwdriver, so we'll take the train out to Ikea again tomorrow.

The apartment is unfurnished, so no chairs yet...

day3152.jpg

We are either moving to another room in our hotel tomorrow, or getting the keys to our flat and moving there in the afternoon. In any event, we had to pack up. Hard to say goodbye to the spectacular views and hotel comforts, but exciting to be settling in soon.
day3151.jpg

Hotel water glass works for wine as well.
day3150.jpg

Another full day, another peaceful sunset. Our new flat will be wonderful, but we won't have 11th floor views - so I'm enjoying this extra expanse of sky while I have it.
day3149.jpg

View from the window at the end of the hotel hallway. News of the day is that we found our London flat. We should have keys before the end of the week, so drawings to come... It's a garden flat not far from school. Tiny and unfurnished, but that will be part of the fun.
day3148.jpg

Scarf thrown over the back of a chair.
day3147.jpg

Stilton cracker from Tesco Express. We ate a late lunch, so dinner was fruit, cheese, crackers, and chocolate in the hotel room.
day3146.jpg

First London sunset.

Ten hours in the Toronto airport. Read, talked, and drew this strange tall post outside our gate's window.
Yes, I'm still here, and have still been drawing daily. I will post all the drawings from Day 3082 through Day 3144 as soon as we're moved in and settled.

Today is a day in transit, the beginning of a new adventure as we move to London for the year, and I've decided to mark it by shifting the format of my work a little bit. I've gotten frustrated with working across/against/around the fold in my little hand-bound sketchbooks, so I've decided to draw on flat sheets of paper for a while. The pages are still the same size as a two-page spread in the sketchbooks, torn down from a larger sheet of the same kind of paper (Lenox 100), but I will be able to use the whole space more easily. Or so I imagine. We'll see.

Maybe I'll go back to books again in the new year, or when I return to Pittsburgh... or maybe this is just how the project is evolving.

Thank you for bearing with me through the gaps, and I look forward to seeing where the next 3144 days of drawing every day take me.
