The blue skies and warm days of this past week are gone. Rain, chill, verge of November. Sweater weather. Hoping that all on the East Coast in the path of the storm are safe and dry and well prepared, and hoping that the storm is less severe than some of the predictions...

Bubbles looks on with interest as dinner is cooked. He'd already had his own dinner, and he doesn't actually beg, or even eat food from the floor without invitation, but he pays close attention whenever we do anything in the kitchen.

This ballpoint pen looks as if it's getting ready for Hallowe'en. The part that attaches the pocket clip seems like a tiny mask to me. A pen with an attitude.

We have a new dog - so you can expect to see more dog sketches in the coming days and weeks. (He's a very sweet 3 1/2 year old rescue pit bull mix, named Bubbles.)

Or Asian pear, as they are called at our supermarket. When I was growing up, we called them "nashi." I think it's the Japanese name for the fruit. Unripe, they are awful, but ripe, they have the crispness of an apple and the flavor of a pear.
