The bedside table starts out empty, but. Books accumulate. Some borrowed, some new, some pulled from the shelf so I can reread that one chapter...

Not the wisest of evening snacks.
Playing with color in low light. I can tell values (light or dark) but not hue.
We are in the odd part of the year when school is beginning, but the weather is still summery. A slight breeze on a hot night, and I'm thinking of the ocean.

After reading many recommendations online, I just got a Kum pencil sharpener. I don't think my pencils have ever been so sharp. The sharpened point is longer, so there's more of the edge to play with as well.

Recharging my phone, and enjoying the way the cord draws its own line from table top to floor.

Just one of the things on the mantelpiece at home - so, so good to be back again. I look around at each familiar view, and am restored. One quick trip away at the end of the week, and then home for a good long comfortable stretch.
Odds and ends appear on hotel room surfaces, as I pack to head home.

Now that the Olympic broadcasts are over, I haven't been turning this on as often. It sits as a black panel in front of the curtains, intruding on the view and making its own smooth darkness part of the scene.

I bought a couple of apples and a couple of oranges so that I'd have some healthy snacks available in my hotel room. Also because I figured they'd be more interesting to paint than hotel light fixtures...
Not a model. Just after sunset, this ship moved smoothly up the Hudson under full sail. (I'm enjoying the incredible views from my hotel room as I settle in for one more week of work in NYC before the end of summer.)

Which skipped us. We heard thunder and saw lightning, but had no rain.
I just finished rereading To the Lighthouse. This is my copy of Mrs. Dalloway, the next book I'm revisiting this summer.
I plan to stay up to watch the Olympics coverage, but get sleepy...
My phone camera flash is not cooperating - or perhaps washed out is a natural state for soap? (Update the next morning - took a better photo without flash, and that one should replace the other photo in this post.)
