June 2012 Archives

day2742.jpg

I can see this construction project from my hotel window.
day2741.jpg

Really? Now? It's nearly July, and these are in my hotel room. A closer look- they're artificial, probably chosen by someone who doesn't think about how seasonal they are.
day2740.jpg

From memory.
day2739.jpg

The material is some sort of plush or velvet, soft and not scratchy.
day2738.jpg

I love looking out any window - but especially a classroom window - and seeing trees and horizon.
day2737.jpg

Plant growing in sand beside the sidewalk. This sketch began in ink for a rendering of the shapes of the darkest shadows and then I added wash and spatter for color and shape and a suggestion of the sand.
day2736.jpg

Sunset, as seen from te sidewalk of El Camino Real.
day2735.jpg

Sat by the pool this morning, even though it was long-sleeved shirt weather. Read my book, drew, enjoyed the sun and breeze.
day2734.jpg

A sprig picked from the ground cover and shrubs.
day2733.jpg

Close up view of a bowl full of apricots. Painted very wet, and then printed to the opposite page.
day2732.jpg

A carafe of water sits on the table by the bed in my hotel room. Each evening, I move it to the table on the other side of the bed, so that I can keep my recharging electronics and their cords away from water. So far, the person who takes care of the room kindly tidies the carafe back to that side of the bed again. I may give up and move the electronics tonight, instead.
day2731.jpg

Morning view from my hotel window.

day2730.jpg

This not-quite-ripe lemon had fallen onto the walk beside a friend's house. The scent of it is intensely lemon-y and slightly spicy. I'm not used to seeing trees loaded with bright lemons among the green leaves. So much abundance. So much to be grateful for.
day2729.jpg

I will be traveling more than usual this summer - but expect to have internet access.  If there's a gap in posting, please don't worry - I'm still drawing, it just means that I arrived somewhere too late to figure out the hotel wifi code, and then headed into a day of meetings. This is the view from the Pittsburgh airport as I was waiting for a delayed flight.
day2728.jpg

"Did you eat those after you painted them?" asked my daughter. "Of course," I said.
day2727.jpg

Five blueberries. Slightly different sizes, colors, and flavors. The second from the left was my favorite, I think.
day2726.jpg

Rescued from the back of a drawer.
day2725.jpg

Someone took a bite.
day2724.jpg

Same apple: different day. (Same sound of rain.)

day2723.jpg

Perfect sleeping weather.  Pouring rain, slightly cooler.

day2722.jpg

Thinking about a hand in motion, even while it's still.

day2721.jpg

Enough pages for one signature of a homemade sketchbook.
day2720.jpg

From a summer drink.
day2719.jpg

Only one day of school-related meetings and then it's summer. I imagine. I remember
day2718.jpg

Half a pistachio nut shell.
day2717.jpg

A found lamp, now attached to an upstairs work table.
day2716.jpg

Getting ready for summer, and time for thinking.
day2715.jpg

Drawing my feet at the end of the weekend.

day2714.jpg

Elderly bear in the corner of my study.

hat

day2713.jpg

Summer straw hat got squashed in the closet over the winter. Think I can pat it back into shape.
day2712.jpg

Thought about sewing today.
