Ah... August.
Still a few warm days left in the year for my favorite drink: cold-brewed coffee with lots of milk.
Over full with the wrappings that came around school supplies.
Wasn't sure why I wanted to draw this tonight, but as I was drawing, I realized how much the shape of this pepper grinder reminds me of a lighthouse. Thinking of all those in the path of the hurricane, hoping for their safety in the storm.
Saved this so that I could paint it.
This one never quite stands up straight, and sometimes falls over altogether.

Floating over the treetops near the city pool today.
We went out for dinner, and the kids stayed home with pizza.
The sun began to set just as the city pool was closing, and we drove home through the park under a pink sky.
A Prima - one of the first local apples of the season. Not sure I'm ready for autumn - we're still reveling in tomatoes and late summer fruits, but back-to-school meetings begin next week, so the new school year is nearly upon us. And the apple is sweet, tart, and crisp.
And I'm sure somebody at my house replied with the second line of the old joke: "Pop's got the car."

Pittsburgh has city pools tucked away in unexpected places, with unexpected views. This one is built near the top of Polish Hill, and you can look at the hills across the Allegheny river as you swim.

The first local tomato - for me, that is. Others were home last week and got to taste them right from the farm.

...and now I'm home, which is even better.
I was supposed to be home tonight, but the flight was cancelled (after I had checked my bags, naturally) and I'm not rebooked until tomorrow. Back to the now-empty apartment for a quiet evening, and I'll try again in the morning.

I was tempted to add color to this drawing with the tea itself, but - frugal soul that I am - I think I can get another cup out of the bag, if I don't rub it all over my sketchbook first.
