My last weekend by the ocean for a while - then one more week of summer teaching, a weekend of packing, and home again. I look at one of my husband's zori, listen to the waves, breathe the salt-infused air, and try to appreciate the present moment.
I keep thinking I hear knocking at the other end of the apartment living room - but no one is there. I'm not used to the tumble and rattle of an automatic ice maker as it works on its own schedule, behind the freezer door. Enough ice is such a luxury - especially in mid-summer.
