November 2010 Archives

day2164.jpg

Raining heavily, but not very cold. Good sleeping weather.  These bottles came from my grandfather's attic.  My mother thinks some of them may have been dug up on his property, or may have been saved by him for some other reason.  I liked the assorted shapes - a kind of cityscape.

Accidentally brought with me from my parents' house, attached to the end of a computer cord - to be mailed back tomorrow!

Home again, enjoying the glow and scent of a clementine in a darkened house.

day2161.jpg

Headed home tomorrow, and leaving before it gets light. Months before I'll get the chance to draw these rocks again.

On an upper shelf in my mother's kitchen.

Standing lamp with a spotted shade.

Wind blowing onshore - dark rough seas and a very high tide.  Ocean in November.

I like blank index cards and old typewriting. I can imagine an elaborate filing system involving stamps, annotations in colored ink, and cryptic cross references. I'd love an excuse to get a set of wooden card catalog drawers. What stops me? (Besides money and space? And the patience of my family?) I'm not sure what I would be cataloguing yet.  I need to spend more time with this daydream, and see whether it's just the aesthetics of the catalog that I find appealing, or whether an actual project is mixed up in this thinking.

From memory.  Wild sky today, as we headed to school - pink and blue behind the shadowed city skyline.

Apple - rising or setting?  No matter. They taste so good as the days grow darker.

day2154.jpg

Left open - someone fell asleep.
day2153.jpg

Brought to work with me this morning.  Forgot I had it. Brought it home again.
day2152.jpg

Quiet. Soothing to look at, even unlit.

day2151.jpg

Had me thinking of a mechanical fish as I was drawing it.  I realize how few purely mechanical objects I use these days - small mechanical objects with moving parts like this.
day2150.jpg

Seemed the right thing to draw tonight.  Perhaps because we were talking of this

day2149.jpg

Fog this morning. Against the whiteness, one yellow leaf glowed.

day2148.jpg

Blue-green cotton sock.  Tye-dyed on a warm spring day some years ago, much faded, still soft.
day2147.jpg

Alstroemeria last for ages in the house, and I love their fluttery shapes.

day2146.jpg

Home-made carrot sticks - the kind with angles and edges.
day2145.jpg

Back from the dentist's.  Clean teeth and a new toothbrush.
day2144.jpg

I love the regular irregularity in the arrangement of leaves on the stem.  It feels conversational  or musical to me.

A carnation from the bowl in the dining room.
day2142.jpg

Hmm. What was I going to write...?
day2141.jpg

Bought flowers for the house, cut leaves and branches from the yard, and now the downstairs looks so cheerful. (Fixing the dining room light switch helped, too.)
day2140.jpg

After an evening of connection, I come home to find I have a spool of thread among the clutter on my bureau.  So that seems the most appropriate thing to draw...
day2139.jpg

Waiting to be finished - but here comes the weekend, so that's what I'll be doing...
day2138.jpg

The wooden trunk at the foot of our bed has no laundry on it.  The comforter breaks against it, like a wave...

Local, fragrant.

Fancy desk scissors. Most of the time, I forget they are upstairs on my desk, and use whatever pair of scissors is handy.
