"and what rough towel, its hour come round at last, slouches toward--" no, no, not that. The crumpled paper did make me think of that stage in evolution where the creatures come out of the sea, though.  I wonder what the next phase in towel evolution will be?

A party favor yo-yo. It almost works the way it should, but then it tangles or falls out of balance. Still, we've had a lot of fun with it.

Today's discovery - at this time of year, put clementines in the icebox for a few hours before eating them.  The chill makes the taste clearer and even more refreshing.
day2008.jpg

The sun went in and out this afternoon, and a brief thunderstorm did nothing to take the humidity out of the air. Clementines were a sweet reminder of winter.

The child's fortune told her that work was a better cure for worry than whiskey. She told us that she doesn't drink whiskey.

Beach fiction.  Read too soon, so I'll just have to find another...

Origami boat, upside down on the table. I'm less than two weeks from vacation, less than two weeks from the ocean.

After dinner.  I was reminded of a message in some unknown language, an ancient game, a minimal portrait, a metaphor.

Longest day of the year.  I was able to read my book on the front porch until just past nine.

The shadow of my fingertips.  Waving? About to hold on?
day2000.jpg

Today is the two-thousandth day of daily drawing in my sketchbook. I can't quite wrap my mind around the number. When I reached day 1000, I made a video. Milestones attract our attention, but in the end, they're just numbers. I'm grateful for the cadence of days, the cycle of seasons. Thanks for your company, for your comments, for your encouragement. I had fun drawing today, listening to the sound of water and birds and laughter in another room. Tomorrow I'll draw something else - I don't know what it will be... but the project continues.

Ferns by the brook - a few hours before the thunderstorm.

A string of lights in the cabin. This weekend will be mostly off-line...

And this drawing was the most time I spent with my programming book today.

Two quarts in today's farm share. One quart already almost gone...

On the horizon.

The glass on the table becomes a partly abstracted collection of marks on paper. I love the way white china marker on white paper surprises me.

She was asleep, but still moving.

Only a couple are left in the bowl, but that leaves me with the stem to draw.

From our backyard, we can see the sky and magnificent treetops two houses down the block.

We did get local strawberries today: so ripe, so fragrant.

Early summer, and the berries in the grocery store get better and better, as they are picked closer and closer to home.  These aren't local - yet - but I have high hopes that we'll have local strawberries in tomorrow's farm share crate.

One of the ordinary pieces of sculpture in my life - I look past or over it most of the time, only noticing if the candle is dripping or burnt down. Felt good to stop and pay attention tonight.

The thunderstorms have passed, and we still have power.
day1986.jpg

We do still read print on paper. I can't curl back the cover of my laptop.

Friday night. Nearly the end of the school year. A rubber band bounces back to its original shape after being stretched. I think I'm ready for the bouncing back. Ready for equilibrium, horizons, and summer.
day1984.jpg

Found this eraser on a clearance rack. Liked the shape, liked the color, and liked the price (37 cents) best of all.

Rainbow? suspension bridge? Sometimes one shape idea leads to another.
