Even when my fountain pen needs refilling, I still enjoy the kinds of line it can make. Now, if only I could figure out which jacket has my extra-fine-point pen in the pocket - I know it's somewhere.
One of my favorite winter squashes - this is our first of the season.
If these white constellations by the side of the road were rare, I like to think about how we'd notice them, and give bouquets of them as presents.
Five girls upstairs trying not to go to sleep - or so it seems. The birthday party has been a success so far, and I suspect everyone will be tired tomorrow. For the moment, I'm staying downstairs and only going up when the footsteps and giggles get too obvious to ignore.
Thought we'd be done with the sound of police helicopters - but they're roaring overhead as I draw. I gather that the big G-20 march today involved thousands of peaceful people and that the vandalism last night may have been the work of just one person. Something is happening again tonight, though...
Listening to helicopters flying low over my city tonight. Hope everyone is safe - police and protestors - majority of both from out of town and here for the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh.
We still have a couple of blooms on the big Rosa rugosa in front of the house. So fragrant.

Helping a friend move some things today, which brought me back to Bellefonte, PA. We paused for supper near sunset, and as the light left the hillside I painted part of the view from her porch.

I sat on the porch swing and drew the tree across the street, while our youngest child sat beside me and wrote her spelling homework sentences. The leaves on our street are still green, but on Friday I noticed trees elsewhere with gold in them.
Walked and stood a lot today. I love these shoes, and it was also good to take them off again when I got home.
It's Friday night, and I'm moving in slow motion, letting the weekend begin now.
We found some old favorites in the library's discard shelves, and brought them home. I love reading aloud - it's like a shared vacation.

Spent the afternoon and early evening at Lake Arthur, in Moraine State Park. Others swam, I read a book while the sun warmed my back, and listened as different people played the ukulele.
Or perhaps I should have called it armscape.
I just looked down and realized that we don't get so many of these any more. We use cloth bags for most errands.
As the mornings have been cooler (and earlier, as we head back to school) I have really enjoyed my coffee this week.
September, and my mind keeps turning to office supplies. (These are called "gum bands," here in Pittsburgh, but I grew up elsewhere...)
