Jump right in - it's really a lot of fun. You can start with something as simple as an LED on a cloth bracelet with metal snaps for switches. You'll need to order some conductive thread and a sewable battery holder online - I found things at Sparkfun Electronics - but for everything else, you can shop at Radio Shack and your favorite fabric store. (One project does lead to another, though. The other day I walked into Radio Shack and asked for a solderless breadboard. I wanted to test a circuit before sewing it. The clerk (female) said I was the first woman to ever ask her for one.)
