leis - 1 January 2008

Happy New Year to one and all. Our day was spent in transit, with a pause in the Honolulu airport. I painted these leis at a flower stall there, while the rest of my family was eating an early supper or tending to the luggage at the gate.

Today was also a chance to reflect. For me, this small daily habit of drawing and posting to this blog has brought with it such richness of experience and community - for which I am so grateful. Thank you for your thoughts and wishes, for your visits and comments. I wish you a year full of peace and joy and love and creation.

I love this; looks calligraphic to my eyes. A New Year's prophecy, or perhaps benediction.

I've just recently discovered your blog and it has inspired me to experiment with drawing and painting. I love seeing your daily sketches.

Thanks. I'm not sure of the symbolism of leis, but think they mark both love and celebration. (If Joan (of Drawing on Nature) happens by this comment thread, maybe she knows more - she lives on the Big Island.)

Happy New Year Elizabeth! I haven't been to your blog for MUCH too long ... its nice to see that you're still doing your dailies. Wish I had as much will power ...

A nice end to each day and a nice beginning for us.

Looks like the aloha spirit. Thirty years now since I was in Honolulu (and came by ship every time) so this brings it back.
